I’ve been so tired lately—I’m just going to be honest. Between working extra hours and preparing for Christmas, my blogging game has suffered this week. I realized I needed to prioritize rest over the weekend, in order to make room for creativity to blossom again. It was hard to say no to writing, but in the end, it turned out to be the right decision. However, I still want to drop in here to connect with you, and share one of my favorite ways to relax and inspire wonder.
I love music. It’s amazing, the magic of unspoken notes, able to swirl and tangle with the heart in such a deep and mysterious way. The ability of music to speak to the human soul is incredible, and it’s one of my favorite ways to simply relax and connect with Wonder. So today, I want to share some of the most magical soundtracks of all time for you to enjoy during the holiday season.
THE WARDROBE: “THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE”
The complete score from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of the most enrapturing works of art in the history of score-writing. You can literally feel the awe and magic in this piece—as well as many of the others.
THE AUGUSTA: “MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN”
The amount of mystery packed into this incredible piece is spectacular. It’s chilling, grand, and otherworldly.
FORBIDDEN FRIENDSHIP: “HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON”
I cannot begin to express my love for this piece. The playful anticipation, the magic, and pure joy of it is indescribable. It’s certainly one of my favorites of all time. (Fun fact: I love this song so much, I walked down the aisle to it at my wedding.)
A STAR SHALL COME FORTH: “THE NATIVITY STORY”
I’m pretty sure this is actually a captured soundbite of the frequency of Wonder, concentrated just for our pleasure.
THE LAST MARCH OF THE ENTS: “THE TWO TOWERS”
The whole of The Lord of the Rings soundtrack is absolutely incredible, but this piece in particular captures the wonder of the world like no other. It tells a story all by itself.
BUNDLE OF JOY: “INSIDE OUT”
Curiosity. That is the only word for this piece. The simplicity, the beauty: this is what it sounds like to search for Wonder with abandon.
THE CRYSTAL CHAMBER: “ATLANTIS: THE LOST EMPIRE”
This piece is filled with exotic mystery and stunning discovery. Its demand for Wonder is high indeed.
A KALEIDESCOPE OF MATHEMATICS: “A BEAUTIFUL MIND”
You can feel the mystery swirling around you, and sometimes, you can almost touch it. Maybe if you’re lucky, you will.
AFGHAN TREK: “THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY”
I absolutely adore the score from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The whole thing is filled with peaceful Wonder, but this piece specifically brings forth magnificence in a way few things can. You may need to listen more than once.
FATHER CHRISTMAS: “THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE”
Even though The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is already represented here, I couldn’t exclude the stroke of pure genius that is this piece. The beauty contained in these two minutes is absolutely brilliant.
I hope you enjoy this list, and that it challenges you to embrace Wonder in a way perhaps you haven’t for some time.
