About Me

Hi! I’m Emily Tjaden (pronounced Jay-den). Welcome to my blog! I’m glad you decided to stop by. Please make yourself comfortable and we’ll chat about life and creative things.

But first, let me introduce myself. I’m a twenty-something living in Kansas City. I spend a lot of time thinking and then writing about the things I think about. Over the last ten years, I’ve studied story and explored the mysteries of creativity with the goal of understanding what it means to live a rich and impactful life.

I started blogging when I was around fourteen and never really stopped. Blogging has taught me many things, the most important of which is why I write. I write, not because I know things, but often, because I don’t. I write to learn. To discover. To live. I believe you have a gift to share, and I want to help you discover and unleash it.

What’s here for you

This Incandescent Life is a blog about living a creative and meaningful life while maintaining the art of simplicity. It’s about embracing your unique voice and identity to create the kind of impact you desire.

I’m often asked why I chose the word “Incandescent” for the title. I chose it for its meaning, which is:

  1. Emitting light
  2. Passionate or brilliant; purposeful, spirited, intense

Wouldn’t you like to have those words describe your life? If the answer is yes, you’ve come to the right place. I want to encourage, equip, and empower you to live the most incandescent life you can imagine!

My goal for this blog is to help you answer the question, “What does it look like to live a powerful and successful life that will impact and inspire others without burning yourself out?”

I want you to be creative.

I want you to be successful.

But more than anything else, I want you to build a life you can love and be proud of. I want you to be free to fly with your own wings.

Here is where we take a stand against mediocrity; the place where we band together to cut the tethers that bind us to the ground and pursue a full and incandescent life. Here is the place where we begin the journey to become heroes and change the world.

If you want to live a life that is about more than drifting, and have a passion for authentic creativity, this is the place for you.

I publish new posts every Monday and Wednesday about topics such as:

  • Creativity
  • Authenticity
  • Writing/Blogging
  • Mastering the art of simplicity
  • Personal development
  • Relationships
  • Success
  • Developing your voice
  • Understanding your identity

If you don’t want to miss a thing, sign up to receive updates and a free e-book to set the course for your journey. I can’t wait to share life with you!

A little more about me

I spent most of my childhood along the Rocky Mountains in Colorado before moving to southern Missouri at the age of twelve. During those years as well as my teenage years, I spent all of my free time reading and writing, which unlocked my passion for story and drove me to pursue a deeper understanding of what it means to live a heroic life. View More: http://shelbygracephotography.pass.us/e--sI finished high school at sixteen and went on to study the craft of fiction, and am now pursuing my passion—helping others live powerful and meaningful lives. Alongside blogging full-time and studying, I offer freelance editing services and story coaching. When I was eighteen, I met a southern boy from Virginia—and, yep, you can tell where this is going. We fell in love, and, after nine months of Skype calls, letters, and a billion texts every day, he moved to Kansas City to go to school, and now he lives just ten minutes from me! We’re nerds and the absolute biggest soundtrack junkies you will ever meet. We might have a world record for the most downloaded scores; who knows? I’m a sports fan. I played volleyball throughout junior high and high school, and this past season I started coaching. Sam played baseball as a kid, and now we love to go to KC Royals games when we can to cheer them on. (And when we can’t, we stay home and shout at our TV.) I’ve written for over ten years (both fiction and non-fiction), coached beginning bloggers and novelists, and I’m pretty sure I have a sixth sense for detecting every Starbucks within a five-mile radius.
