About Me

Hi! I’m Emily Morgan. Welcome to my blog! I’m glad you decided to stop by. Please make yourself comfortable and we’ll chat about life and creative things.

But first, let me introduce myself. I’m a twenty-something living in Kansas City with my husband and a couple of imaginary cats. I spend a lot of time thinking and then writing about the things I think about. Over the last ten years, I’ve studied story and explored the mysteries of creativity with the goal of understanding what it means to live a rich and impactful life.

I started blogging when I was around fourteen and never really stopped. Blogging has taught me many things, the most important of which is why I write. I write, not because I know things, but often, because I don’t. I write to learn. To discover. To live. I believe everyone should have a chance to live their best life, and I’m here to dig into what that means.

What’s here for you

This Incandescent Life is a blog for creatives. It’s a blog for adventurers. For thinkers, dreamers, and doers. If that’s you, you’re in the right place. Let’s explore the incandescent lifestyle together.

What is the incandescent life? I’m glad you asked! I chose the word “Incandescent” for the title of my blog because of its meaning:

  1. Emitting light
  2. Passionate or brilliant; purposeful, spirited, intense

The incandescent lifestyle is one of purpose, passion, and intensity—a lifestyle of creativity, freedom, and fulfillment. Through this blog, I want to encourage, equip, and empower you to live your best, most creative life—starting today.

My goal for this blog is to help you answer the question, “What does it look like to take control of my life in a way that allows my creativity to blossom?”

I want you to be creative.

I want you to be successful.

But more than anything else, I want you to build a life you can love and be proud of. I want you to be free to fly with your own wings.

Here is where we take a stand against mediocrity; the place where we band together to cut the tethers that bind us to the ground and pursue a full and incandescent life. Here is the place where we begin the journey to become heroes and change the world.

If you want to live a life that is about more than drifting, and have a passion for authentic creativity, this is the place for you.

I publish new posts every Monday and Wednesday about topics such as:

  • Creativity
  • Authenticity
  • Writing/Blogging
  • Mastering the art of simplicity
  • Personal development
  • Relationships
  • Success
  • Developing your voice
  • Understanding your identity

A little more about me

13177489_502622873270967_6953780755831464655_nI spent most of my childhood along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado before moving to southern Missouri at the age of twelve. During those years as well as my teenage years, I spent all of my free time reading and writing, which unlocked my passion for story and creativity, and drove me to pursue a deeper understanding of what it means to live a heroic life.

I finished high school at sixteen and went on to study the craft of fiction, professional blogging, and marketing. Currently, I work at a health food store and manage my blog on the side.

When I was eighteen, I met a southern boy from Virginia—and, yep, you can tell where this is going. We fell in love and were married in July of 2016 (on Harry Potter’s birthday; factoid for you nerds out there.) We are nerds ourselves, and the absolute biggest soundtrack junkies you will ever meet. I wanna say our library is at somewhere around 100+ hours currently. And still counting, of course. Our other hobbies include gaming and swing dancing. The 1940s is our jam.

I’m a sports fan. I played volleyball throughout junior high and high school, and coached for a season after graduating. Sam played baseball as a kid, and now we love to go to KC Royals games when we can to cheer them on. (And when we can’t, we stay home and shout at our TV.)

I’ve written for over ten years (both fiction and non-fiction), coached beginning bloggers and novelists, and I’m pretty sure I have a sixth sense for detecting every coffee shop within a five-mile radius.
