5 Reasons Every Creative Should Have Instagram

As creative people, social media is one of our greatest resources. Whether you write, sing, draw, or blog, social media is a must if you want to share your gifts with others.

As I’ve built my own social media presence, I’ve learned—and continue to learn—a lot about the different platforms, their functions, and their benefits. And somehow, I always come back to Instagram. The more I use it, the more I realize: it is the number one platform for creative people.

If you don’t have an Instagram account, or you never use it, you should reconsider. As a creative person, Instagram could be one of the most valuable places you spend your time for several reasons.

1: It allows you to showcase your art

Instagram is hands-down the best social media platform for creating a showcase of your work. I mean, that’s exactly what it was designed to do. Artists, photographers, and other creative types should stop wasting time and start taking advantage of this great tool.

2: You can connect with others who do similar work

This has been one of the greatest advantages of Instagram for me as a blogger. The hashtag system allows you to search for relevant content, which has led me to some of my favorite blogs and gotten me connected to some wonderful people.

3: It sends traffic to your website

When used well, Instagram can be a great traffic-driver to your website, blog, or online store. It’s the perfect place to give people a sample of your work and get them hungry for more!

4: It stimulates your creativity

As I’ve become more active in using Instagram, I’ve found that it has caused me to think more creatively on a daily basis. I’ve started to see photo ops in the simplest places, and learned how to turn the mundane moments into something beautiful. Exercising creative thinking every day is one of the best ways to stay inspired.

5: It challenges you to always do your best work

When you have an audience waiting to receive your work, it always pushes you to do your best. And while it’s important not to let perfection become the enemy of the good, you should always strive to be and do your very best to provide value for those you hope to impact.

  1. I love Instagram, and definitely agree it’s a great place to get creative inspiration, and be creative yourself. I really need to try harder with my account though, seen as it’s been neglected for quite a while now.
I’ll be checking out some of the accounts you’ve recommended!

    • Thanks, Laura! Yeah, Instagram is a fantastic tool. If you watch your email, I’ll send you a PDF with some tips for boosting your account. I hope it’s helpful!

And yes, those accounts are lovely. I hope you enjoy them. (:

  2. Instagram is my favorite social media tool – and Pinterest. I probably spend too much time on it, usually posting about the things going on in my life, but I’ve gotten a lot of art inspiration from Instagram, especially for writing. It’s awesome, and I’ll definitely check out some of these accounts.

    • Yes! I agree. I was reluctant to get Instagram at first, but I’ve really gotten attached to it. Haha!

Oh, for sure! The inspiration is incredible. And I love what you mentioned about writing, because I’ve found exactly the same thing. I especially love looking at Instagram for character inspiration. (I’ve actually followed certain accounts specifically because they remind me of a particular character. Shh.)

  3. I haven’t been interested in Instagram a lot, but it had caught my interest as of late and I would be very grateful if you helped me start out! 😀
